I did an interview a few days ago with Jennifer Jones, the host of PodTech’s Marketing Voices. We talked about the future of journalism, and what we referred to as “the death of print.” For those not in the know, major companies are starting to approach bloggers more and more for coverage of their products. Heck, at , we recorded almost 200 episodes of The Bleeding Edge, something I am almost certain no other “traditional” media outlet came close to doing.

Radio was to be the death of books
Television was to be the death of radio
Satellite was to be the death of AM/FM
Internet is to be the death of television

While we always want to believe that the new, cooler medium will kill an older medium, it’s actually very hard to kill a communications method.  Heck, we even have morse code in a limited form today.

While I see where trade mags certainly work better online, I doubt that they will die.  Be reborn, find a new nitch, yes.  Die, go away, no.

I will say that as you mentioned in the interview, CES 2007 was awesome for bloggers.  While I don’t think that old mediums will die easily, new mediums such as videocasts, podcasts and blogs will grow at exponential rates.

    Just my humble opinion.
